Online Life Drawing Sessions with Helen Roeten
Since 2020, Helen Roeten has been organizing online life drawing sessions. These sessions bring artists and models from around the globe together. These sessions are more than just drawing; they offer a unique blend of art, inspiration, and community.
What Makes These Sessions Unique?
- Thematic Poses
The model’s poses are inspired by the works of specific artists. Each session highlights a different artist, with a special focus on female artists to give them the recognition they deserve. This provides not only artistic inspiration but also an opportunity to learn more about art history. - International Models
The sessions feature models from diverse backgrounds, adding a global perspective and variety to the poses. This diversity enriches the artistic experience and provides fresh challenges for participants. - Innovative Camera Techniques
With a camera that captures angles impossible in traditional settings, these sessions offer a richer experience. The camera can be positioned overhead or close-up. It can also capture from unconventional perspectives. This positioning allows artists to explore unique viewpoints while drawing from home. - Music and Stories
Each session is accompanied by music that complements the artist’s theme and atmosphere. Helen Roeten shares stories about the life and work of the featured artist. She adds an educational layer to the experience. It also becomes inspiring. - An International Community
These sessions connect artists from all over the world, creating a diverse and inspiring group. Participants exchange ideas, learn from each other’s styles, and discover new perspectives. This community enriches the experience and fosters connections among artists. - Shared Work Reviews
After the first hour, there’s an opportunity to review each other’s work. Another review session occurs at the end. While entirely optional, most participants enjoy receiving feedback and finding inspiration in the variety of artistic styles. It’s fascinating to see how every artist interprets the same pose differently.

How Does a Session Work?
Each session is structured with a mix of short and longer poses:
- 3 poses of 5 minutes: Quick sketches to capture form and movement.
- 3 poses of 10 minutes: Refining details and experimenting with shadows.
- 4 poses of 15 minutes: Creating depth and completing a more finished piece.
During the session, stories are told. Music is played to bring the artist and the theme to life. This makes it a truly immersive artistic experience.
Donation-Based Sessions
These sessions are organized on a donation basis, making them accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Your contributions support the models, the technology, and the ongoing development of this unique artistic community.
Some Numbers
Over the past four years, hundreds of artists have participated in these sessions. The online format makes them accessible to everyone, regardless of location or skill level. From beginners to professional artists, participants can develop their skills and find inspiration. The inclusion of international models adds further depth and variety to the sessions.
